These TED talks about marketing will blow your mind!
Sadly, we can’t take credit for them. That doesn’t mean we can’t align ourselves with some solid thoughts from these TED talk speakers!
We put together a short list of some of our favorite TED Talks on marketing, because we truly believe these are ideas worth spreading.
If you’ve never heard of a TED Talk, it’s simply an idea presented by a speaker on a subject he or she is passionate about.
These are our favorite talks on marketing.
TED Talks About Marketing
Diana Dosik – Why We Need to Treat Our Employees as Thoughtfully as Our Customers
Companies spend TRILLIONS of dollars a year trying to find out the mindset of their customers, but what about their employees?
In this TED Talk presented by Diana Dosik, she goes on to spread the idea that companies should take the time to know their employees as well as they do their customers.
After all, these are the people who are helping these businesses thrive.
Dan Cobley – What Physics Taught Me About Marketing
Dan Cobley takes a different, scientific approach to sharing his ideas of marketing. I’d try to go into the details of this talk, but I would do it a MASSIVE injustice. Science was not my forte.
One idea that is easily grasped, however, is that it takes just one variable to prove a hypothesis to be disproven.
For instance, BP branded itself as environmentally conscious. Then, in 2010, there was the BP oil spill. We all know what that did to their “environmentally friendly” brand.
Seth Godin – The Tribes We Lead
Seth Godin is one of the most prolific marketers around. From his shaven head, large glasses, and distinct voice, it’s clear he knows a thing or two about branding and marketing.
In his talk on leading a tribe, he means for us to become the leader of those who believe the things we believe.
That’s why there are industries in things such as goat yoga and photographic running…Yes Man reference, anyone?
Seth Godin – How to Get Your Ideas to Spread
Yet another talk by the magnificent Seth Godin. I would be a failure to this world had I not included this amazing idea.
If you haven’t read it, you need to go grab a copy of “The Purple Cow” by Seth Godin, because this book goes into greater depth on the topic at hand.
Here’s the synopsis of this TED talk.
“If you want your ideas to spread, then stop being a brown cow in a sea of brown cows. Instead, become a purple cow in a sea of brown cows. Make people stop and take notice of you, and they’ll tell others about you.”

Sarah Willdersdorf – What Brands Can Learn From Online Dating
I’ll admit, first watching this, I wasn’t sure where Sarah Willdersdorf was going with this message.
Especially when she got to her points of, “Be Clear, not coy; Give them what they want; and get naked.”
It’s a bit of cheeky idea spreading, but it get’s the message across. And that is what works.
