Oh, campaigning! Some find it invigorating, while others find it either lackluster or cumbersome. Regardless of how you feel about it, without any kind of campaigning, you cannot grow. That said, there are some questions to consider before your next promotional campaign.
Whether it is for a startup business or for a fortune 500 company, here are the questions you need to ask.
5 Questions to Consider Before Your Next Promotional Campaign
1. What is My Goal?
Before you spend any time or money trying to promote yourself or your business, it’s important to have some kind of goal in mind.
After all, a congregation wouldn’t build a church building with no idea what to do with it!
There are many goals you can consider, and they can be as broad or narrow as you want them to be.
But there must be a goal!
Here are a couple examples:
- Grow an email list by 1,000 subscribers
- Raise $50,000 in funding
- Increase awareness of a brand’s identity or offer by 30%
- Survey 100 attendees at the mall to understand their frustrations with e-commerce shopping
- Increase sales by 400%
- Reduce the average amount of follow up calls before booking from 10 touch points to 5
- Increase Sales Closing or Conversion rates
2. Who is My Target Audience?
Imagine coming to Nashville to our beloved Bridgestone Arena to watch the Nashville Predators play some mean hockey!
Now imagine instead of selling Nashville Predators gear, they were selling banners and foam fingers for the visiting team?
I can honestly say, if I was the CMO of the Predators, I would find out who’s idea it was to sell opposing team gear at the home arena and then reconsider his or her position on the marketing team.
And my guess is, you probably would too.
Why? Because they got the target audience all kinds of wrong!
The opportunity would be lost to grow sales and awareness, as well as brand loyalty because the right product for another team was offered to the wrong audience.
By simply defining who your audience is, you will set up your next promotional campaign for success.
3. What is My Budget?
This is the number one limiting factor in all promotional campaigns.
If you have a budget of $200, you’ll likely have to find cheap promotional items to maximize your ad spend.
On the other hand, a budget of $10,000 and up will grant you access to higher quality products or a greater quantity of items.
If you have a low budget, don’t let that discourage you from utilizing custom swag.
Promotional product marketing is one of the strongest ways you can use your advertising spend!
4. How many items do I need to order?
Something else that you should consider before your next promotional campaign is the amount of custom swag you need to order.
Because of the costs that go into creating a branded product, many factories require that a minimum amount of orders must take place before they will print something customized.
For instance, some of our custom bandanas require that a minimum order of 72 must be ordered in order to print custom art on it.
On top of that, factories also require that some items are ordered in certain quantities, even if they aren’t printed.
Let’s say you have an event where there are 84 attendees who will be attending. The item you are ordering must be ordered in quantities of 20. That would meant to have at least one promotional product for each attendee, you would need to order at least 100 items.
This wouldn’t be too much of a loss for you, however, as you could use the remaining items as samples for yourself, giveaways, or sell them!
5. How can I Grow My List?
The final question to consider is, “How can I grow my list?”
Many trade shows will provide a list of attendees to each vendor who participated, but this leaves competing for business that your competitors have access to as well.
By having trade show giveaways at your booth, you make sure they remember who you are as your given this list.
You can even grow your list in your next promotional campaign by using items as giveaways or “Free-plus-shipping” deals!
Simply have your targeted audience fill out a form with their contact information in exchange for the giveaway!
The reason you want to grow your list of contacts is so you can have a role sheet of prospects who may be interested in your offer.
The larger and higher quality list you can build, the greater the return you can have.
